Will Iaia
Solo Rider
Will is an outstanding athlete whose athletic career began as a runner, morphing into professional triathlete, and eventually landing in the world of competitive cycling. Will has raced as a pro cyclist in both road and cyclocross races. Although Will has a talent most of us would kill for as well as a burning competitive nature, what matters most to him is family and community involvement. Will’s father, Bill, passed away unexpectedly in December 2016. Bill was an athlete in his own right, volunteering every summer at The Running School Camp in New York and, most significantly, rode his bicycle across the United States, twice, completely unaided in support of Angela’s House, a nonprofit organization supporting families of children with life threatening illnesses. A recently discovered short video highlights Will’s father talking about his determination and experience. Bill’s final sentence “I think I have one more left in me”, is the inspiration for Will’s ride.
Will’s challenge is to duplicate his father’s ride not only as a tribute to Bill but also to raise funds for Angela’s House as well as ProjectRecycle . Starting at the Golden Gate Bridge and ending in New York, Will’s goal is to complete the solo ride in 26 days or less carrying only needed supplies and his father’s ashes. Will and his wife, Danica, recently welcomed twins to their family, which makes them the proud parents of three children under that age of two! Will is also a well known and loved coach as well as a volunteer for many children’s sports in Colorado.
